Bethelehem Primitive Baptist Church Home to 59 Brannen Family Reunions Minutes from the 2007 Reunion The Fifty-Ninth Annual Brannen Reunion was held on September 22, 2007 at 11:00am. We enjoyed visiting with Family members and looking at the scrapbooks and other things members brought to the meeting. We also had for sale 1909 Bulloch County maps and Family Trees for $10.00 each, Descendants of William and Elizabeth Brannen Database books for $25.00, also on CDs for $10.00, and DVDs of “The Roots of the Brannen Family” for $10.00. Looking at Scrapbooks Linda Futch, President, called the meeting to order, introduced herself and gave a warm welcome. She spoke about the Brannen name coming from Ireland in 700 A.D. and that it was spelled in different ways. She read from II Chronicles 7:14. “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land.” She asked William Brannen, her uncle, to pray and to bless our food. We had a delicious lunch and took up the collection. Linda Futch presided over the business meeting. Certificates were given to the following members: Lucille DeLoach for being the oldest member present and had never missed a meeting [in 59 years!] and John Curtis Lanier for being the youngest member present, Stanley and Frances Griscauge for coming the greatest distance.
A silent memorial was held for the following deceased members: Eubie Anderson Nita Denmark Brent Lanier John Brannen Purser Hazel Sykes Sidney Sykes Lingo Jones Brannen Karl Walton Sanders Mary Sue Smith gave a most informative report on things that have happened since last year. The Genealogy committee, Smith Banks, Randy Brannen, and Mary Sue Smith met twice a month during the year. Their two major projects were the compiling of the family genealogical data base and the writing of the Brannen history. In March they mailed blank record forms to everyone on the Brannen Reunion mailing list, and received 119 responses. She said to be careful in filling out the family sheets, send the original, not a copy, write out the month in the place it should be. Updates are important also. She said everyone should bring pictures and other events to put in the scrapbook next year. The committee decided that the Brannen Family Book should be dedicated to William Lawton and Zada Brannen for their love of Family and generous giving through the years.
Randy Brannen showed slides of his family and other events, showing that so many things can go into the book or database. He said the committee decided there would have to be two books: one for the database and the other for Family History book. He hopes to have this Future Book next year. He showed us several different books that they are looking at to decide what our Brannen History should look like. He also set up a website, www.BrannenGa.com. Smith Banks recognized Randy for all he has done on this project, and we gave him a big hand. Randy said help would be needed to complete this project. We appreciate so much the fine work the committee has done.
The meeting was adjourned by our President, Linda Futch.
